Pre-registration and payment is required before you can attend these courses to ensure that your successful completion will be reported to the Iowa Department of Education.

S.T.O.P.

This class prepares you for your role as a new bus driver in keeping children safe while riding on a school bus. You will learn rules and regulations, safe driving practices, passenger control, emergency first aid, accident and emergency procedures, route hazard identification, loading and unloading procedures, and dealing with danger zones, route hazards, and pre/post trip inspections.

The Iowa Department of Education (IDOE), Bureau of Nutrition, Health, and Transportation Services requires a school bus driver training and certification course for all school bus drivers within the State of Iowa. The New Drivers S.T.O.P class consists of a total of 17 hours, held in two sessions:

  1. New Driver S.T.O.P. Online Session
    The online session takes about 14 hours to complete. It is done individually and at any time except for the last module, which is a test that must be proctored by the employer. You can attend the three-hour face-to-face session only after completing the online portion and receiving a certificate.
    Once you have completed and passed the proctored test, you will print out the certificate, which you and the proctor sign. It must then be mailed, emailed or faxed to Corporate College at WITCC prior to registering for the face-to-face training.
  2. New Driver S.T.O.P. Face-to-Face Class Session
    You can attend the three-hour face-to-face session only after completing the online session and receiving a certificate. You must attend the face-to-face portion of New Bus Driver S.T.O.P. class within six months of completing the online session.

Returning Bus Driver Annual Refresher

This training will discuss the many hazards you may face as a school bus driver in Iowa and will provide a path to learning and understanding the security measures needed to keep kids safe and secure.

The Iowa Department of Education (IDOE), Bureau of Nutrition, Health, and Transportation Services requires annual refresher training for current school bus drivers within the State of Iowa.
