Moville Historical Museum Trip
Join us for a journey of Moville's history at the Moville Iowa Historical Museum, guided by local historian Grace Linden. Grace will provide an overview of the museum's mission and the significance of preserving Moville's history. Learn about the museum's inception and the community's commitment to celebrating its heritage. Wander through various exhibits showcasing artifacts from Moville's early settlers, agricultural developments, and cultural milestones.

Grace will share fascinating anecdotes and insights about each exhibit, highlighting key historical figures, events, and daily life in the past. Gather a deeper understanding of how life in Moville has evolved over the years. Then enjoy lunch with friends at the Crankshaft restaurant before returning to Sioux City.

$40 Fee includes transportation, lunch, and admission.

Close out the spring session with other Lifelong Learners with a picnic on the Overlook Patio. Relax, socialize, and chat in the early evening breeze on the outdoor patio. Enjoy delicious finger foods from the Overlook Café. Afterward, join Rock Around the Clock with Russ Gifford at 5:30 p.m. in the Cargill Auditorium.

Remember how the DJs would spend New Year's Eve counting down the previous year's hits, counting them down to midnight? Join Russ Gifford as he recreates that vibe for you with a countdown of the first five years of rock and roll, as seen in 1959. Spend two hours reliving the early years of Rock n' Roll - just as we did then – listening to the radio late into the night. We'll remember the people, the stories, and most importantly, the sounds of the fabulous Fifties. With all the hits and perhaps a few misses, we'll trace the rise of rock in a blazing trail for radio waves bouncing off the ionosphere...Along the way, we will hear from Little Richard, Don & Phil Everly, Ricky Nelson, and as many others as we can cram into two hours. Plus, we'll survey the hot gal groups and doo-wop dreamers. Join Russ Gifford as he counts down the hits of the 1950s.

Brenda Wright guides you through creating various marinades and seasonings, making it easy to pull out a delicious meal from the freezer when you're ready to grill. Enjoy a laid-back and healthy summer dining experience on your patio with Brenda's tips for less fuss.

When you see horses standing in a pasture or running across a field, does your heart beat a little faster? Do you long to touch them and understand them? Whether you have grown up with horses or admired them from afar, this course will help you understand them and become a
part of their world. Learning to Communicate with Horses is a non-riding horse class for adults 50 and over who have always wanted to be able to approach these magnificent creatures without fear and be accepted by them. This class will teach you the proper way to interact with a horse. You will be rewarded with a silky muzzle, a warm breath, and a deep feeling of serenity as you join with the spirit of a horse. You will learn how these graceful animals communicate with each other and with us, how to bond with them through activities, and how they can help us heal from loss
and trauma. At the end of the workshop, you will have gained the confidence and knowledge that will allow you to understand and enjoy the special relationship between a person and a horse. The next step is our Silver Saddles class, which will help you to see the world from a totally different perspective, from the back of a horse. Classes are held at the STARS Riding Center just 1 1?2 miles north of Mike's Saloon on Hamilton Boulevard. Please dress comfortably (close-toed shoes please) in layers. Light refreshments and beverages will be provided. Participants must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces.

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man," noted Winston Churchill. This statement is never truer than at the Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School (STARS) located in Sioux City. The PATH certified staff at STARS has created a program designed for Lifelong Learning members over 50 who want to connect or reconnect with horses and get some exercise. The Silver Saddles program will provide you with a deeper understanding of horses, teach you how to move safely around them, and develop elementary riding skills.
The STARS staff has a great deal of experience working with individuals with little or no previous interaction with horses. You will learn how to bond with and feed horses. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a gentle ride. Similar programs around the country have found that seniors can improve balance, flexibility, and endurance as a result of this kind of activity. There are also psychological benefits, such as developing a sense of meaning, promoting social connections, and acquiring a sense of accomplishment.

The Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of nearly 130 independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. Locally, the Midwest Honor Flight serves Veterans from Northwest Iowa, the State of
South Dakota, Northeast Nebraska, and Southwest Minnesota, bringing them to Washington, D.C. at no cost to the Veteran. Their mission: to transport America's Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and to fellow Veterans. They've flown 23 flights since inception, flying nearly 2,000,
with five more flights planned in 2025 including one from Sioux City, possibly in the spring of 2025. These flights are entirely funded by donations, with no government funding involved. While initially focused only on America's World War II Veterans, Honor Flight Network now also includes those who served in the military during the Korean and Vietnam War eras, along with veterans of any service era who are critically ill. Top priority is given to World War II and terminally ill Veterans. In order for Midwest Honor Flight to achieve this goal, Guardians fly with the Veterans on every flight, providing assistance and helping Veterans have a safe, memorable, and rewarding experience.
