This certificate prepares you to instruct and coach groups or individuals in the fundamentals of fitness and athletics. You will learn to provide training direction, encouragement, motivation, and nutritional advice to students and athletes, as well as explain and enforce safety rules and regulations.

According to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE), "All coaches (paid or volunteer) are required to have either a coaching authorization or a coaching endorsement listed on a valid teaching license." This is required for anyone coaching middle/junior high and high school athletics in Iowa.

Western Iowa Tech offers credit courses for students pursuing a Coaching certificate. While everyone takes these same courses and must complete the same requirements, a coaching endorsement is added to a teacher's teaching license once the required coursework for college credit and other requirements are met.
