Graduates please plan to check-in for line-up between 4:30pm and 5pm.
Graduates, family, and friends will all enter through the Prime Bank Box office doors. Graduates will be directed where they need to line up once inside.
May Graduates
All students who anticipate graduating in May must apply for graduation by March 29, 2024, to receive their degree, diploma, or certificate. August and December 2023 graduates are invited to participate in the spring Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2024.
- You must apply for graduation each semester you complete a credential even if you are continuing classes in future semesters.
- You must apply for graduation even if you do not intend to participate in the ceremony.
- Once you apply for graduation, the College will complete a degree audit to ensure you have met all graduation requirements.
- You will be notified ONLY if you have not met graduation requirements (required courses, total credit hours, and/or GPA requirement).
- Another degree audit will be conducted when final grades are submitted.

Western Iowa Tech Community College will be hosting its annual Evening Reception for Graduates. For the first time this year, receptions will be held Sioux City, Denison, and Cherokee.

RegisterThe evening reception will honor the incredible achievements of our diverse learners who will go forth and continue to strengthen our communities. Every student will be presented with a rainbow graduation chord. Additionally, TRIO students will be medaled and Indigenous students will be blanketed.
This evening reception is free and open to all Western Iowa Tech students who graduated in December 2023 or will be graduating in May 2024, and their family members. Heavy appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts will be provided.
How to Apply for Graduation
If you have not applied for graduation here are the steps to apply:
- Log on to my.witcc.edu
- Under Academic Self Service card, click Graduation Application
- At the right of the screen click “apply”
- On the next screen, fill out all the required information
- Click Submit - you will see Confirmation and Receive a confirmation email sent to the email you provided.
- Click on “back to degree process.” You will see your process is complete and the date your application was submitted.
Caps and Gowns
Deadline for ordering is March 15, 2024

- Pick up will be April 16 and April 17, 2024 from 10am - 4pm.
Sioux City - Dunker Student Center
Denison and Cherokee - the main desk on your campus - If you missed the graduation cap and gown pick up days. Cap and gown will be available in Enrollment Services Mon-Fri 8:15am - 4:30pm until May 8, 2024.
- Western Iowa Tech does not charge for your cap, gown, and tassel. They are yours to keep.
Honor, Military, and PTK Cords
Recognition cords for honor students (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher) and military students will be distributed during cap and gown pick up on April 16 and April 17, 2024 between 10am and 4pm in the Robert E. Dunker Student Center.
Commencement Ceremony Announcements
- Each student picking up a cap and gown will be given five complementary Commencement Ceremony Announcements.
- If you are needing more Commencement Ceremony Announcement there will be a limited amount available to order at the Bookstore or call 712.481.2255. Announcements are $1 each and must be paid for in the Bookstore when you order.
Photography
Nurse Pinning and Commencement Ceremony photos will be taken by: Ceremony Photos.
Photos will be available for purchase approximately two weeks after the Commencement Ceremony.
Clear Bag Policy and Parking
Tyson Events Center has implemented a clear bag policy. Western Iowa Tech follows all security policies of Tyson Events Center. Please visit their website at www.tysoncenter.com/plan-your-visit/a-z-faq
- Graduates typically find it beneficial to leave any bags in the care of family or friends during the ceremony, as there is no place for graduates to secure these items during the ceremony.
- Please plan accordingly due one Commencement Ceremony parking at the Tyson Events Center may be congested.
Transcripts
You can view your unofficial transcript at any time on MyWIT.

Official Transcripts
Official transcripts can be ordered electronically or by mail for $8 per transcript. Mailed transcripts may take up to ten days. Order official transcript.
You have three processing options when ordering your official transcript:
- Send Now: transcript send immediately without pending grades or graduation.
- After Grades: transcript sent when the current semester's grades have been included.
- After Degree: transcript sent when your degree has been awarded.
Important Reminder: Per College policy - Students will not be granted a degree, diploma, certificate, final grade report, or official transcript until all outstanding accounts with the College have been paid in full.
Diplomas
Graduates can now receive an official digital version of your diploma through Parchment. Your paper diploma will still be mailed to you a few weeks after receiving your digital diploma.
- When your diploma is issued, you will receive a claim email and/or text from Parchment.
- Click on the green "Access Your Credential" button in the email or click on the link in text.
- Either sign in or create a new account.
- Verify your email address to be directed to the Parchment dashboard.
- Once in the dashboard, you can Share, Download, and Preview your diploma.
- A duplicate diploma can be requested through Parchment for $20 per request.
Streaming the Commencement Ceremony
Friends and family who want to watch the graduation ceremonies will be able to them view live on the college’s Facebook at facebook.com/WesternIowaTech and YouTube at youtube.com/wittv.
